  1. How do you celebrate Maori Language Week in your class/school? the school did a challenge by having a maori word every day and you had to translate.
  2. Why is this an important week to New Zealand? In the last 200 years the history of the Māori language (te reo Māori) has been one of ups and downs. At the beginning of the 19th century it was the predominant language spoken in Aotearoa/New Zealand. As more English speakers arrived in New Zealand, the Māori language was increasingly confined to Māori communities. By the mid-20th century there were concerns that the language was dying out.

    Maori Language Week (Maori: Te Wiki o te Reo Maori) is a government-sponsored initiative intended to encourage New Zealanders to promote the use of Maori language. Maori, English and New Zealand Sign Language are the official national ... for their first match against Zimbabwe to celebrate Maori Language Week.
  4. Can you name any local places of significance that have a Maori name?Why are they significant? Rangiora is a well known area were lots of people like myself live.

  8. If New Zealand was to officially celebrate another language what language do you think that should be? Why?. Maori because it is the language of our ancestors.

    • Belarus has two official languages: Belarusian and Russian.
